US justice department dismisses charges against California union leader

The Department of Justice is moving to dismiss charges against David Huerta, president of the Service Employees International Union United Service Workers West, The Guardian reports. Huerta was arrested at a June 2025 demonstration protesting an immigration raid in Los Angeles, and the US attorney's office filed the dismissal motion on Monday. This marks the latest government case against protesters to fall apart.
