Epic diarrhea outbreak has 40% of Americans avoiding fruits and veggies
health
A parasite called Cyclospora is behind a record outbreak of diarrheal illness, with the CDC now counting more than eleven thousand five hundred confirmed and probable cases across forty-one states, and over three hundred hospitalizations. Ars Technica reports the FDA is investigating six separate outbreaks tied to fresh produce, including leafy greens and herbs. The biggest cluster traces to Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell and other chains, now spanning nine states, with Michigan alone reporting over nine thousand cases as of Monday. Health officials say the true case count is almost certainly higher than reported.
