‘We have lost everything’: extreme rainfall across Asia brings flash floods and typhoons

Extreme rainfall is battering communities from Afghanistan to Taiwan, with flash floods and typhoons laying bare the human toll of a warming climate. In eastern Afghanistan's Dur Baba district, construction worker Anar Gul described ten straight days and nights of rain unlike anything he'd witnessed, which caused his kitchen to collapse and destroyed much of a neighbor's home. Villagers there build with stone and mud, leaving them especially exposed to prolonged downpours. The Guardian reports that residents say the rains are arriving heavier and earlier each year, washing away roads and crops and hitting rural livelihoods directly.
