Barclays has increased its banker bonus pool by nearly thirty percent, The Guardian reports. The bank allocated one point three billion pounds to bonuses in the first half of the year—up from one billion pounds last year. The increase follows quarterly profits that reached three point three billion pounds and has intensified calls for a tax on UK lenders, with policymakers and union leaders arguing that banks with such strong earnings can easily afford to contribute more to government spending.
