Kentucky teen lauded for defending girl from sexual harassment fatally shot

In Louisville, Kentucky, a fifteen-year-old being remembered as a local hero has been fatally shot. Da'Jon Anthony Hayes-Burr was shot Saturday night in the city's Shawnee neighborhood and later died at a hospital; police have booked a fourteen-year-old on a murder charge. The Guardian reports that Hayes-Burr had received a municipal commendation months earlier after he stepped in to stop a forty-five-year-old man from sexually harassing a twelve-year-old girl, an act in which he was stabbed but survived. His death has left the city mourning a teenager who was being held up as an example of courage just months before.
