A magnitude seven point one earthquake has struck Japan's Kumamoto prefecture, trapping multiple people inside a shopping centre, The Guardian reports. Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae said maximum seismic intensity of seven was recorded in Uki City and Makigawa Town, and a tsunami advisory has been issued for Ariake Bay and the Yatsushiro Sea, with waves of about one meter expected. She has ordered the government to prioritize saving lives and to keep the public informed as rescue efforts continue. BBC News has reported that some of those trapped were inside an Aeon Mall, with unconfirmed reports of an explosion at the site.
