Tory MP accuses French navy of firing shots in Channel incident
politics
On Tuesday, Conservative MP Chris Philp, his party's home affairs spokesperson, was conducting a BBC interview from a boat a couple of miles off Boulogne when the French warship Flamant passed nearby. The Guardian reports that a French navy officer at the vessel's stern fired seventeen shots from a handgun into the water, deliberately aiming away from Philp's boat. Philp claims the shots were fired in an attempt to stop his coverage of the small boats crisis, a contentious political issue in Britain.
