eBay pays $46M to journalists it targeted in bizarre harassment campaign

Ars Technica reports that eBay and three of its former executives have agreed to pay nearly fifty-six million dollars to settle a lawsuit over a bizarre harassment campaign waged against two journalists. The victims, Ina and David Steiner of Natick, Massachusetts, who run the news site EcommerceBytes, say the twenty nineteen campcampaign was meant to stop their reporting on eBay, and included live cockroaches, a funeral wreath, and a bloody pig mask sent to their home, plus an attempt to plant a GPS tracker on their car. Former eBay employees tied to the scheme already pleaded guilty to criminal charges and served prison time. Filed as a civil suit in twenty twenty-one, the settlement includes fifty-five point seven million dollars in compensation and charitable commitments, Ina Steiner says.
