Study: Dinosaurs were charbroiled after Chicxulub impact

Ars Technica reports on research published in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences showing how the Chicxulub asteroid impact devastated Earth sixty-six million years ago. The collision generated a towering dust cloud that superheated the atmosphere to lethal temperatures, charbroiling any organisms without shelter and sparking global wildfires. The impactor, estimated at eleven to eighty-one kilometers wide, unleashed energy equivalent to over a billion times that of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
