Per ABC News Australia, Daniel Hoepner, a Gold Coast nurse, was born with congenital nephrotic syndrome of the Finnish type—a rare genetic kidney disease. He received his first transplant at age six and a second about sixteen years later. Now in his thirties, he faces a third kidney transplant after the second failed.
