The US military says it intercepted an Iranian ballistic missile barrage aimed at a base in Jordan, an assault Washington called an attempted surprise attack that broke a brief lull in Middle East fighting. According to The Guardian, US and Saudi forces then struck sites in Iraq used by Tehran-backed militias, killing at least twenty members of a pro-Iran paramilitary alliance. The escalation coincided with claimed Iranian attacks on three tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, sending oil prices sharply higher on Wednesday.
