How volunteers are helping forest wildlife survive their blazing habitats

Wildfires that have scorched France in recent weeks aren't just threatening people and property — deer and other animals have been filmed fleeing the flames, disoriented and in distress, France 24 reports. Smaller, less visible creatures, like insects and small mammals whose populations underpin fragile ecosystems, have also suffered heavy losses. In response, volunteer groups have been searching the burned areas for survivors to rescue and rehabilitate.
