Japan searches for earthquake survivors as thousands evacuate

A magnitude seven point one earthquake hit Japan's Kumamoto area on the southern island of Kyushu on Tuesday, and France 24 reports the prime minister says thirteen people have died, with many more injured. Rescue teams are still searching for those unaccounted for as more than two hundred sixty thousand residents evacuated the region. Roads have buckled and power has been knocked out across the area, complicating the recovery effort.
