Next 12 hours ‘decisive’ for wildfire near Madrid, says Spanish PM

world

A massive wildfire west of Madrid, Spain's largest on record, is at a turning point, according to The Guardian. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said the next twelve hours will be decisive for firefighters battling the blaze as temperatures climb to thirty-seven degrees Celsius in the capital on Wednesday. Further north, crews near Bordeaux have so far kept a separate forest fire from reaching the city's suburbs, with highs there forecast to hit thirty-nine degrees Celsius. The extreme heat gripping southern Europe is adding pressure across multiple fire fronts at once.
