Champion Lodgepole Pine in Angelus Oaks, California

Atlas Obscura reports on one of the world's largest lodgepole pines, standing in Southern California's San Bernardino Mountains near Big Bear Lake. Over four hundred forty years old, it germinated around fifteen sixty, before the Pilgrims landed, and today stretches one hundred ten feet tall with a trunk circumference of twenty-two feet. Lodgepole pines are rare in Southern California, and this grove is essentially a relic from an era when the region's climate was significantly cooler.
