Labor MP arrested over alleged assault on Northern Territory Administrator

politics

Federal Labor MP Luke Gosling, who has held the Northern Territory seat of Solomon since twenty sixteen, was arrested Thursday over an alleged assault on NT Administrator David Connolly. The Conversation reports investigators say the incident happened at a public event on Saturday, July eighteenth, and Gosling, a former army commando who serves as the government's special envoy for defence and veterans affairs, remains in custody. He had previously called the allegations "ridiculous" and denied any dealings with Connolly beyond congratulating him on his appointment. Gosling and other NT Labor figures had previously criticized Connolly's appointment over past controversial social media comments, adding a political backdrop to the case as police investigate further.
