Medicaid Insurers’ Contracts on the Line in Tight Governor’s Race

Iowa's next governor will be determined partly by how much they trust private insurance companies with Medicaid. The state has contracted with national insurers to manage benefits since twenty sixteen, covering more than six hundred thousand Iowans. Democratic candidate Rob Sand, the state auditor, wants to end the arrangement, calling it "a disaster" and citing complaints about denials and delays in payment for necessary care. Republican Zach Lahn says private management is more efficient and wants to continue it. Per KFF Health News, the race is competitive, and forty-one states plus D.C. already let private insurers run Medicaid—though Connecticut is the only state to have reversed the practice.
