Inside the $2 million effort to oust Rep. Andy Ogles in his Republican primary

politics

A clean-energy focused super PAC is ramping up a two-million-dollar effort to unseat Republican Representative Andy Ogles in Tennessee. With the primary's final week upon us, the group has committed another seven hundred thousand dollars to support Ogles' challenger, Charlie Hatcher. According to Axios, the race is surprisingly competitive—an internal poll showed Ogles ahead by just four percentage points, well within the margin of error. The super PAC's goal is to punish Republican lawmakers who opposed clean energy tax credits. Despite having Trump's endorsement and recent tele-rally support, Ogles faces stiff competition from Hatcher, who is backed by former Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and former Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue—and who has outraised the incumbent in total contributions.
