world

England's heat-related deaths are on pace to set a grim new record this summer. The UK Health Security Agency estimates two thousand eight hundred seventy-seven fatalities occurred during the heatwaves of May and June, nearly double the toll from the same period last year, and August, typically the hottest month, hasn't even arrived yet. The Guardian reports the current record was set in twenty twenty-two, at two thousand nine hundred eighty-five deaths. Health Secretary Yvette Cooper offered condolences to those who have lost loved ones in the heatwaves.
