Trump touts "historic" agreement to disarm Hamas, rebuild Gaza

President Trump's Board of Peace announced Thursday a historic agreement for Hamas to disarm Gaza, though the deal hasn't been signed yet, per Axios. Under the proposal, Hamas would decommission weapons over six to eight months, surrender maps of tunnels and weapons depots, and accept a new Palestinian police force vetted by Israel. Israeli forces would then withdraw to positions from last October's ceasefire. But Israeli officials and Western diplomats remain deeply skeptical Hamas will follow through. Mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey have spent months pressuring Hamas to sign, while Iran urges the group to hold out.
