Australia's fuel excise discount is ending this Sunday, with the full tax returning at midnight on August 2. Per The Conversation, when the sixty percent cut expires, petrol prices are likely to jump by sixteen cents per litre. The government introduced the discount in April after US-Iran conflict disrupted oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, at an estimated cost of two point five billion dollars in lost revenue. However, fuel prices have fallen significantly in recent months, leaving it unclear whether the government's relief measure actually helped ease inflation or whether falling fuel prices themselves did the heavy lifting.
