California voters will decide Proposition 45 this November, a measure that would streamline project approvals while limiting how the state's environmental law applies to them. CalMatters reports that environmental justice advocates warn the proposition would weaken environmental reviews and reduce community input on polluting projects—potentially making it easier to build warehouses, freeway expansions, and mineral extraction with minimal oversight. The state's Legislative Analyst estimates the measure could cost taxpayers over one hundred million dollars annually. More than two hundred seventy environmental, health, housing, and civil rights groups oppose it.
