At least 34 people die as thousands cross to Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco

At least thirty-four people have died trying to reach the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, according to The Guardian, after more than forty thousand migrants entered the territory from Morocco in a matter of hours by swimming across or scaling the border fence. Officials say some drowned while others were caught in a crush, and the influx has triggered a political crisis in Madrid along with criticism from other EU countries. A local police association has called it a serious humanitarian crisis for the city of eighty-five thousand.
