Per The Guardian, Contender is the largest tagged male great white shark in the Atlantic and has been traveling north along the US and Canadian coasts. The nearly fourteen-foot shark weighs more than sixteen hundred pounds and was most recently tracked off Nova Scotia in mid-July. The sighting reflects a broader trend: shark sightings are surging as warming oceans prompt several shark species to shift their ranges.
