AI #179 Part 2: Hearing The Fire Alarm

According to LessWrong, Congress is advancing AI regulation on two fronts. Representatives Trahan and Obernolte introduced the Frontier Act, which would establish federal oversight of frontier AI models, including new testing and incident-reporting requirements. OpenAI's Sam Altman was in Washington previewing the company's latest model and meeting with officials on developing a formal process for testing advanced AI systems before public release. Separately, Representatives Lieu and Moran introduced the AI Kill Switch Act, which would require companies with large-scale AI operations to have the capability to shut down their models upon request or in the event of a crisis.
