In Naples, archaeologists work to learn more about a submerged Roman city

science

About thirty kilometres west of Naples lies what was once one of the Roman Empire's most prestigious coastal thermal resorts. The site gradually sank below sea level over time due to volcanic subsidence in the region. To preserve and study this submerged heritage, per France 24, the universities of Naples and Salerno, along with private companies, are developing new technology as part of an ongoing research programme.
