Nurses chase Cyclospora using grocery receipts, food apps and detailed interviews

Public health nurses in Washtenaw County, Michigan have been pulled from regular duties to investigate hundreds of cases of cyclosporiasis by contacting sick patients and asking about their recent meals. The investigation is complicated because symptoms can take up to two weeks to appear after someone eats contaminated food—making it difficult for patients to remember what they ate at the right time. Per NPR, officials are using grocery receipts, food-delivery apps, and detailed patient interviews to identify the source.
