David Clayton-Thomas, the Toronto-born singer who led the rock band Blood, Sweat & Tears, has died at eighty-four. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clayton-Thomas was the voice behind some of the group's biggest hits, including "Spinning Wheel," "And When I Die," and "You've Made Me So Very Happy." Before his success in New York with the brassy, jazz-inflected ensemble, Clayton-Thomas had spent years in prison, but went on to help define the sound of late-nineteen-sixties rock.
