Physicist Rhett Allain has a problem with how we usually explain entropy. In Wired, Allain argues that the 'messy bedroom' explanation — treating entropy as disorder or chaos — gets it wrong. Entropy, he says, is really about counting how many ways a system's components can be rearranged while keeping its overall state the same. He illustrates the concept with dice.
