Avalanche in Pakistan kills famed mountaineer Nirmal Purja and his fellow climbers

Renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja and several fellow climbers have died in an avalanche in Pakistan, NPR News reports. The international team, which included climbers from the U.S., was attempting to summit one of the world's tallest peaks. Purja rose to global fame for his rapid ascents of the world's fourteen highest mountains, all above eight thousand meters.
