July set to be driest on record for England and Wales after relentless heatwaves

science

The Guardian reports that July is set to be the driest month on record for England and Wales, with southern England receiving just one percent of its long-term average rainfall last month. Half of England and the whole of Wales are now officially in drought—the third such event in five years. Four record-breaking heatwaves since May have fueled massive wildfires and left farmers, wildlife, and protected habitats running out of water.
