In August twenty oh eight, German developer Armin Heinrich released 'I Am Rich' on the App Store for nine hundred ninety-nine point ninety-nine dollars—the maximum price Apple allowed. The app displayed a glowing red gem. Tap it and it showed an affirmation message. The app did absolutely nothing else. Eight people bought it before Apple removed it. According to Boing Boing, it remains a notorious reminder of the early App Store's anything-goes era.
