Artists, writers and scientists urge UK government to save Jodrell Bank Observatory
science
The Guardian reports more than one hundred artists, writers, and scientists have signed a letter calling on the UK government to save Jodrell Bank Observatory, after its funding was slashed. The facility, which includes the Grade One-listed Lovell telescope, is used by astronomers worldwide to study galaxies, star formation, and planets beyond our solar system. Signatories include the band New Order, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, and poet laureate Simon Armitage, who are urging new Prime Minister Andy Burnham to preserve what they call the world's clearest eyes on the sky.
