Easy Theremin Uses ESP32

Per Hackaday, a builder known as ericCycles has created a digital theremin using just an ESP32 microcontroller—a far cry from the complex analog circuits that made traditional versions daunting. The theremin, that iconic electronic instrument with the eerie wail familiar from mid-century science fiction, works by detecting hand proximity: move your hands closer or farther from two antennas, and you control both pitch and volume simultaneously. The ESP32's built-in capacitive touch sensors handle the detection, while its digital-to-analog converter outputs the synthesized waveform to external speakers. The result is a surprisingly accessible build for anyone interested in making otherworldly sounds in an afternoon.
