Blanche kills Trump fund but leaves legal loose ends

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche rescinded the order implementing Trump's one point seven seven six billion dollar anti-weaponization fund on Sunday, a move aimed at breaking Republican resistance to his confirmation. Per Axios, the fund grew from a May settlement of Trump's lawsuit against the IRS over his tax records, and two Republican senators on the Judiciary Committee have been blocking Blanche's path to a full hearing. Here's the legal tension: Blanche rescinded only the implementation order, not the settlement provision requiring the fund — so Trump's lawyers could still try to enforce it or claim the Department of Justice breached the agreement. Trump complicated things Saturday by threatening to revive the fund if Blanche remains in the acting role. One senator, John Cornyn, says Blanche's move addresses his concerns, but Republican senator Thom Tillis has not yet said whether he'll advance the nomination. The committee votes on Tuesday.
