New File Manager is C64’s Answer to Norton Commander

The Commodore sixty-four, the beloved eight-bit computer from the nineteen eighties, has a new file manager that brings desktop PC functionality to the retro platform. Hackaday reports that developer Chicken 64 has created Multi Floppy Commander with Turbo, available on GitLab, which provides an eighty-column split interface inspired by Norton Commander, the legendary file manager that dominated DOS systems. The new application supports all four drives on the Commodore sixty-four's bus and includes standard file management operations—renaming, copying, moving, and deleting files and directories—plus the ability to launch programs and print disk listings. Since the software runs from a cartridge rather than a floppy, all available drives remain accessible simultaneously, making it a full-featured file manager for retro computing enthusiasts.
