A fifty-seven-foot Tiffany-style stained-glass dome once hung over a Parisian pleasure house during the city's Golden Age of Brothels—a period known for lavish decor. Someone carefully disassembled it panel by panel, shipped it across the Atlantic, and it eventually found its way into Chateau Big Bear hotel, built in nineteen eighty-seven in the San Bernardino National Forest. Today it presides over Tiffany's Bistro, the hotel's restaurant and live music venue. Look closely, and you can still spot the pockmarks in the glass—reportedly scars from champagne corks popped in celebration during its Parisian nights. The owners invested roughly five hundred thousand dollars in restoration, and now the dome continues doing what it always has: overseeing a room full of people having a good time, just thousands of feet higher and thousands of miles from home.
