Guinea-Bissau Tidal Waters

Twice daily, the Bijagós Archipelago off Guinea-Bissau transforms visibly from space. NASA's satellite imagery reveals a chain of eighty-eight islands and islets — surrounded by sandy channels, mudflats, and mangrove forests — appearing to grow and shrink with the tides. At low tide, mudflats and sandflats emerge from the sea, making islands appear significantly larger. Hours later, as the tide returns, those exposed areas vanish beneath the water once again. This dramatic landscape shift repeats twice each day.
