David Z, Longtime Prince Associate and Key Architect of ‘the Minneapolis Sound,’ Dies at 78

David Z Rivkin, the Grammy-winning producer and musician who engineered several of Prince's albums and helped shape what became known as the Minneapolis Sound, has died at seventy-eight. Variety reports he also co-created Lipps Inc.'s 1980 hit "Funky Town" and later worked with artists including Fine Young Cannibals, the Jets, and Jonny Lang.
