Before you buy that TV streaming stick
tech
Security researchers have uncovered a troubling operation inside popular TV streaming boxes. Adafruit Blog reports that Bitsight discovered devices like the H96 brand secretly spoof mobile phones to click ads on fraudulent websites, scamming merchants and ad networks while renting users' internet to strangers. Researcher Pedro Falé exposed the scheme after registering an expired domain that coordinated the fake clicks. Experts recommend buying from reputable brands, carefully vetting apps, verifying Android TV certification, and checking Synthient's list of devices known to ship with malware.
