Exclusive: College students want ethical AI

American University's Kogod School of Business found that business student AI usage has jumped from six point two percent to twenty-nine percent over the past three years, according to research shared first with Axios. While college graduations last spring featured plenty of skepticism about AI, most students aren't avoiding it — they're using it strategically, with over eighty percent using AI for academics in the past six months. But here's the shift: schools are moving away from trying to make assignments AI-proof, and instead teaching students how to use the technology responsibly. The real pressure is coming from employers, where job interviews that include AI-related questions have jumped from eleven point six percent to forty-two point six percent in three years. Students do have concerns, though — more than half worry about academic integrity and AI dependence. The takeaway: students know they need to master AI for their future, but they want clear guidance on using it ethically alongside their own thinking.
