NASA Provides Updates on Moon Base Cargo Landers, Tech Demonstrations

NASA is making tangible progress on a Moon Base that will permanently establish a presence near the South Pole. Per NASA News, four commercial partners—Blue Origin, Firefly Aerospace, Intuitive Machines, and Voyager Lunar Systems—are developing landers to deliver by twenty twenty-eight. On Tuesday, NASA released an update on each company's progress. Blue Origin's Blue Moon lander has completed thermal and vacuum testing at Johnson Space Center, simulating lunar conditions, and is now preparing for cryogenic propellant loading. Firefly Aerospace is stacking its Blue Ghost lander atop an orbital spacecraft to attempt the first American landing on the Moon's far side. Intuitive Machines is assembling its third Nova-C lander, paired with a new data-relay satellite called Altus-1, to explore a lunar magnetic anomaly. Voyager Lunar Systems' Griffin-1, designed to carry the largest commercial payload ever delivered to the Moon, is undergoing environmental testing. NASA's Phase One plan through twenty twenty-nine includes more than twenty robotic landings—each advancing the capabilities needed for sustained human operations.
