Now, CalMatters reports, that progress is unraveling as budget shortfalls and new federal restrictions push state leaders to dismantle the system they built. A joint analysis from UC Berkeley's Labor Center and UCLA's Center for Health Policy Research projects California's uninsured rate could nearly double, to almost fifteen percent, by twenty thirty, with an estimated two point two million people losing coverage over the next four years. The losses are expected to hit undocumented immigrants and low-income Californians hardest, with uninsured rates more than doubling among Black and Asian residents, and Southern California bearing the brunt given its larger share of immigrant and low-income residents.
