Pesticide exposure at work may increase motor neurone disease risk – new study

A new study finds that workplace pesticide exposure may raise the risk of developing motor neurone disease, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease, by sixty-one to seventy-one percent. Researchers pooled data from eight prior studies across the US, Canada, France, Italy and Australia, finding herbicides carried the slightly higher risk. The link appeared stronger in men than women, though the authors say that could reflect measurement gaps rather than real biology. According to The Conversation (Australia), most of the underlying studies relied on people's own recollection of exposure, so the findings call for more rigorous research rather than settling the question.
