Nearly 20 killed in Russian attack on Kyiv region as Ukraine fails to intercept a single missile

world

A massive Russian missile and drone barrage struck Kyiv and the surrounding region overnight, killing seventeen people and injuring forty-four, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said. Meduza reports that Ukraine's air defenses failed to shoot down a single one of the twenty-eight missiles fired, though they did intercept or suppress ninety-eight of the accompanying drones. Zelensky said the strikes hit facilities with no military connection — including a brewery, warehouses, and a railway station — and renewed his call for allies to speed up delivery of anti-ballistic interceptor systems. Kyiv has repeatedly warned that a shortage of Patriot interceptors could let Russia sharply escalate strikes on energy infrastructure once winter arrives.
