Microsoft warns of major Russian hacking campaign targeting public hotel Wi-Fi networks worldwide

Meduza reports that Microsoft has identified a large-scale Russian hacking campaign targeting public Wi-Fi networks in hotels, conference centers, and other venues worldwide. The attackers compromised the login pages that appear when you connect to public Wi-Fi, and may have infiltrated shared services used by multiple network operators. They redirected users to phishing sites and distributed malware disguised as browser and operating system updates — fake prompts that appeared when devices automatically checked for network connectivity. Microsoft attributes the campaign to Storm-2945, a group tied to Midnight Blizzard, Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service — the same group behind the twenty twenty SolarWinds cyberattack on U.S. government agencies and the twenty twenty-three breach of Outlook email.
