House GOP scandals expand Democrats' 2026 map

politics

Four House Republicans facing ethics scandals are turning safe GOP seats into competitive races just months before the midterms. Chuck Edwards of North Carolina dropped his reelection bid after an Ethics Committee finding of sexual harassment, forcing state Republicans to scramble for a replacement with little time to spare. Max Miller of Ohio faces assault allegations from his ex-wife, which he denies, while Cory Mills of Florida remains under active Ethics Committee investigation over domestic abuse and financial misconduct claims he also denies. Andy Ogles of Tennessee, whose phone was seized by the FBI in a campaign finance probe that was later dropped, now trails his Democratic challenger badly in fundraising, Axios reports. Trump carried all four districts comfortably in 2024, but Democrats are betting the scandals — not the districts' politics — will decide these races in November.
