Adversarial Clothing Designed to Fool Facial Recognition Systems

tech

Companies are manufacturing clothing marketed as designed to fool facial recognition systems. The garments feature patterns claimed to confuse facial recognition algorithms. But security expert Bruce Schneier raises a critical concern: none of these products have been rigorously tested. Without serious testing, Schneier argues, there's no basis for trusting they actually work. And even if testing validated a design, future versions of facial recognition software could render that protection obsolete. Schneier cautions against people relying on these products for privacy without proof they deliver it.
