Burnham ‘personally intervened’ over possible early prison release of grooming gang perpetrators

The Guardian reports that Andy Burnham has personally intervened after officials flagged a possible loophole that could let grooming gang perpetrators walk free early. The concern emerged after men convicted of assaulting children in Bradford were expected to be released ahead of schedule, despite a promise earlier this week that they would remain behind bars. The government says it is now urgently identifying other historic cases where the same loophole might apply.
