The Senate homeland security committee voted Thursday to hold retired public health official Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress. The Guardian reports Fauci invoked the fifth amendment during last week's hearing, saying he feared self-incrimination and prosecution by Republican lawmakers who have long criticized his pandemic response. The full Senate needs 60 votes to advance the resolution—Republicans hold 53—so Senator Rand Paul may send it instead to the Department of Justice.
